Conversation in a Tesco produce section
*a soft clearing of the throat*

I don't recommend that one.

Oh. I...

Percy. Cheers. I didn't see you there.

Why not?

The woman before you dropped it repeatedly. Unless mashed courgettes is your intention, you're better off with a different one.

*sets courgette back delicately*

I see. I didn't realise vegetable abuse had reached such depths.

She was wrestling an opinionated toddler that apparently did not want courgettes for dinner.

Shocking. Such drama on a Sunday night.

That's put me quite off courgettes, I'm afraid.

Peace was had with the acquisition of sprouts, instead. *a sigh* I don't recommend the aubergines, either. Looking at them has not improved them.

Oh dear. And here I had grand plans of... well, I wasn't sure, really. I was starting with courgettes but now all bets are off.

Dinner should not be this difficult.

I know. Blast it. I was going to have a proper meal.

We could always...

Proper, as in dishes and napery, or as in all the proper meal parts? As opposed to eating ice cream with a serving spoon over the kitchen taps?

*laughs*

Far from the napery, I fear. The latter. Although I tend more to chips and beer if I'm not eating properly.

Man cannot live on chips and beer alone, more's the pity. Nor fried fish, as I've come to realise. Something green, or dare I say it, purple is occasionally necessary.

Absolutely. And fried fish. Yes.

I wonder where we could find cooked green or purple at this hour. There's a decent Italian place a few streets away, if memory serves.

*the sound of a slightly flabby aubergine being set down*

Why not. At this moment, I'll take green and red and even yellow in lieu of having to cook it myself.

Why not indeed. I think we should free ourselves from these carts and go sit down to a civilised, multicoloured meal.

Do they have red and white, too? After this week, I could definitely use a large serving of red or white.

Merlin's tit, yes. Red, I think. And perhaps grappa after.

That sort of week then?

Repeatedly telling persons of middling intellect and inflated egos that they really don't know better than I do and they in fact hired me to come in and quite clearly tell them so is not my idea of a dazzling week. Nor is spending much of the weekend fixing what was done until some pillock with a V and a P after their name decided to "improve" it.

Ah, yeah, it was that sort of week.

That sounds horrid. You may need an extra dose of red.

I think it's just up there and around the corner.

It that Healer's orders?

Right, no more talking about dismal subjects except on alternate Tuesdays and as this isn't Tuesday we'll have to find something more pleasant to discuss. Tell me, how's what's his name, your bloke? Daniel, right?
